CHARLES MUNROE BETTS-53:
Keokuk, after a stroke of paralysis yesterday, MrBetts died this morning at the home of his dau: Mrs Oxel Sandburg. The deceased was a well-known ci-tizen, having lived in Keokuk for the past 30 years. He was engaged in the business of buying-shipping horses & mules & was highly successful, being an expert stockman & con-ducted an extensive business, which took him away from home often, but he always consid-ered this city his home. He had been in poor health the past few weeks & was stricken with paralysis yesterday, surviving the shock for a few hours & passing away this morn. He was a member of Morning Star Lodge-5 of the Knights of Pythias, having become a member 18yrs ago & took considerable interest in the work of the order. The lodge will likely have charge of the funeral.
Charles Munroe Betts was born near Williams-field OH on 20 Dec 1855. From his home state he came west to D'Moines & came from there to Keokuk in 1878, since which time he had made this city his home. He was married in 1876 at Kahoka MO to Martha Wallett.
Surviving relatives are a dau: Ethel Sandburg, bros & sis as follows: Eli & Mathias-Keokuk; Taylor-Pueblo CO; Scott-NorthBend NE; Mrs Katherine Mack-Williamsfield OH; Mrs Charles Inman-Maryville MO. [Burial in Oak Park Cem]
