Mrs. Anna Rupright, Wells Co., Victim
Bluffton, Nov. 12 -
Mrs. Anna R. Rupright, 55, wife of Wentz (Barney) Rupright, was killed by a bull in a field near her farm home on State Road No. 1, at the Kingsland Junction this afternoon.
The body of the prominent Wells County woman was discovered by her husband at 4:30 pm when he returned from work with the state highway department and began a search for her. She was found in the middle of 10-acre fields in which were pastured 18 cows and one bull.
Although no one was witness to the tragedy, it was reported to officials that she customarily went after the cattle at 3:30 o’clock and drove them to the barn. It is believed that she was attacked by the bull and trampled by his hooves, since the animal had no horns. Mrs. Rupright suffered a crushed side and chest and internal injuries. The bull had not previously shown a tendency to be cross.
Born in Schoolcraft, Mich., Mrs. Rupright had been a resident of Wells County since her marriage in 1907.
Besides the husband, she is survived by a son, Robert H., at home; five sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Kent of Sandy Creek, N.Y., Miss Susan Bauer, Miss Katherine Bauer and Miss Bertha Bauer, all of Schoolcraft, Mich.; three brothers, John Bauer of Manton, S.D., George Bauer of Kalamazoo, Mich., and William Bauer of Schoolcraft.
Mrs. Rupright was a member of the Ossian Presbyterian Church.
The body was removed to the Elzey & Son Funeral Home in Ossian and may be viewed after 6 pm Wednesday. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
