William A. Griffith for about 17 years, a prominent and respected resident of the western part of the county, died at 11 o'clock last night at the Elim hospital, Brush. He had undergone an operation Monday, which revealed that his appendix had been ruptured. He had been taken to the hospital Sunday. Mr. Griffith was about 53 years old. He is survived by his wife, Katherine, and five children, Billy, Dorothy, Hazel, Katherine and Fay, all of whom live at home.
Mr. Griffith was one of a family of 12 brothers and sisters of whom five sister are now living. A brother Del Griffith, passed away a year ago last December, His home was only half a mile from that of William Griffith who passed away last night.
Surviving sisters are Mrs. Hettie Kirby of Mason City, Iowa; Mrs. Amanda Overturf of Loveland, Colo.; Mrs. Charles Armstrong of Haigler, Neb.; Mrs. Maggie Fisher of Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. O.E. MacFarland of Lincoln, Neb.
The Griffith ranch was eight miles northeast of Wiggins and three miles south of Weldona.
Mr. and Mrs. Griffith came to Colorado about 18 years ago. For a few years Mr. Griffith was in the drayage business at Boulder until he moved to the Morgan County ranch. They came to Colorado from southern Iowa near Ottuawa.
Funeral services will be held at 9'oclock Saturday afternoon at the parker Funeral Home in Fort Morgan with Rev. Theodore Alam in charge. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery.
Mr. Griffith was a man of excellent character and repute and his residence in the county had endeared him to many friends who join with the family in mourning his passing.
