Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) for Mrs. Mattie Moore Hastings, age 71, who died at her home in this city Wednesday night. Mrs. Hastings was born January 1, 1863 at Decatur, Tenn. She was married to J.E. Moore Oct. 1, 1879. To this union were born 7 children, two having preceded her in death. The five surviving are Walter W. Moore, of Poughkeepsie, Ark., J. Lon Moore, Mrs. W.M. Plummer, Mrs. E.M. Burke, and Mrs. Luther Ellison, all of this community, 21 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren also survive.
After the death of Mr. Moore, she later was married to Jim Hastings, of this city, who also
survives. Mrs. Hastings was one of the earlist members of the Steele Baptist church, which was organized in 1904.
The services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. A.B. Sadler, and with the German Undertaking Co. in charge, burial was made in the Mt. Zion cemetery.
