Her marriage license states she was born in Doddridge County instead of Tyler County.

She married Melvin Nichols on September 22, 1906. The groom was 36, residing in Tyler County, WV and the bride was 33 years old and residing in Doddridge County, WV at the time of their marriage. The Rev. F. G. Radabaugh performed the ceremony in the United Brethren parsonage in Wilbur, WV.

Her great nephew shares these memories:

She was his baby sitter for many years. Someone had an old Halloween mask that was ugly and scared him when he was young. So, when he wasn't listening, she would threaten him by saying, "if you don't listen to me, I will get the spooky mask and hang it out in the tree!"

Or, with this one: Every week, she would walk to West Union from his home on Wabash Avenue to get bananas; which were a special treat they both enjoyed. She would tell him, "If you don't listen, I'm going to stop on the bridge on the way home, sit down and eat all the bananas myself and you won't get any!"

He remembers she was "fussy" about how she looked. Whenever she sat down, he remembers how she would run her hands down her long skirt or dress to ensure the creases were sharp and continued to be pressed. And, how she would "fuss with her hair," especially the small stray pieces around her ears and the back of her neck.

She liked "pretty things." She was the opposite of her sister, Alice, who wasn't really concerned with fashion and hair styles.

According to her death certificate, she was a 78 year old, widowed housewife when she died from encephalitis possibly from a post nasal infection following a cold. Her nephew, Vance Smith, was the informant.
