Elizabeth Freeman was my 2nd great grandmother . She was born November 1835 in Vermillion, Champaign County, Illinois. Elizabeth was the 5th of 8 children born to Orange Marion Strong and Nancy HILDERBRAND Strong. She first married Joseph Risinger on 1 July 1852 in Champaign County, Illinois (county marriage records). Joseph died @ 1856 and Elizabeth married my 2nd great grandfather, Andrew Jackson Freeman, on 23 February 1858 in Champaign County, Illinois (county marriage records). They had the following children; George Freeman (1858-1860), Sarah Emma Freeman (1861-1933), James Porter Freeman (1864-1945), Nancy Ellen Freeman (1866 - ?), my great grandmother Effie Freeman (1869-1907), and Andrew Guy Freeman (1877-1959 FAG #30729572). Elizabeth and Andrew raised their children in Champaign county, Illinois but eventually moved west in the 1870's and by the 1880 census had settled on a farm in Timber Hill, Bourbon County, Kansas. By 1885 the family moved again to the township of Marion, Bourbon County, Kansas. By 1900, Andrew and Elizabeth bought a farm in Butler, Missouri and then relocated to Decatur, Nebraska sometime after 1900. Daughter Effie FREEMAN Kinning died in Deactur in 1907 and it is not know if they moved there to help their daughter or if Effie and her family moved there to be near her parents. Either way Andrew and Elizabeth lived in Decatur after Effie's death and were available to help support their widowed son-in-law Henry Kinning with their grandchildren Henry Guy, Lula, and twins Wilmer and William Kinning. By 1920 Andrew and Elizabeth retired from farming and moved to Washington, Nebraska where they ran a boarding house. Some time after 1920 Andrew and Elizabeth moved to Seattle, Washington where their daughter, Sarah Emma FREEMAN Christy, lived. Elizabeth died in 1922 and is buried in Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park. Andrew died in 1926 but burial location is unknown.
