Funeral services were in St. Luke Lutheran Church for Louie Ludwig Bernhardt, 64, a lifetime Olney resident who died in an Olney hospital Sunday afternoon. Officiating for the rites were Pastors Harold Heckmann of Olney, Carroll C. Kohl of Big Spring, and Clifford W. Horn of Stephenville.

Attended Olney High. Bernhardt entered the US Army in 1941 and trained at Fort Sill. He served in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. Bernhardt was warded Purple Heart, Amer. Def. Ribbon, EAME Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead. Wounded in Italy in 1944.

Born March 16, 1917 in Olney, Bernhardt was married December 25, 1947 to Zita Corgill, in Olney.

He was a farmer and rancher and served in the Army of World War, II.

He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Suzanne Haney of Big Spring, Cindy Stafford of Stephenville, and Nancy Duhachek of Minot, N. Dak.; four sisters, Mrs. Olivia Siepert of Vernon, Mrs. Helene Kunkel, Mrs. Ruth Furr, and Mrs. Pauline Braune, all of Olney; four brothers, August Bernhardt of Olney, Oscar of Fort Worth, Alvin of Weatherford, and Johnny of Wichita Falls; two grandsons, Paul Haney of Russell Stafford.
