He was a son of Olas and Rose (Dood) Powell. On Jun 30, 1945, in Wabash, he married Carol Presar, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, George (Sharon), San Antonio, FL, Daniel (Pamela), Rome City, IN, and James (Michelle), Wapakoneta; seven daughters, Nancy (Rick) LaLonde, Port St. Lucie, FL, Roseann (Patrick) Hale-Murphy, Lima, Jacquelyn Huecker and Betty (Keith) Westerheide, all Minster, Carolyn (Roger) Zizelman, Celina, Susan (Mick) Eymer and Marilyn (Marion) Hicks, all St. Marys; a sister, Thelma Smith, Celina; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Deceased are two brothers, Olas and Glenn; an infant sister; two sons-in-law, Cheldon "Butch" Fetters and Ed Huecker.
He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force, having served during World War II. He retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he had been a supervisor in the shipping department. He was a life member and past commander of VFW Post 9289, American Legion Post 323 and Eagles Lodge 767, all St. Marys. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a staunch Republican and was an avid reader.
Funeral rites will be at the Miller — Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Rev. Tom Schwind officiating.
