Excerpts from her deposition in application for Civil War pension as mother of Thomas Sneed, dated 3rd Nov 1892:
I am 87 years of age.
When I was 15 years old the traders brought me from N.C. to near Brentwood, Williamson Co., Tenn., where I was sold to Constantine Sneed. I have resided within one mile of Brentwood, Tenn. ever since I have lived in Tenn. I come to Nashville occasionally and stay with my son Ephraim Sneed, but my home is near Brentwood, Tenn. I am at present staying with my son in Nashville. Constantine Sneed was the only master I had after I came to Tenn.
When I was about 19 years of age I married Zachary Sneed, and I married him at my master's house.
Zachary Sneed, my husband, was owned by James Sneed, my master's father.
I had fourteen children by Zachary Sneed, and their names were as follows: Jordan, Green, Ephraim, Mark, Seth, Thomas, John and Jane. The other children died in infancy and were not named. I have only three children living, John, Seth and Ephraim. The white folks took Seth off to Texas during the war, and I have not seen him since.
Zachary died right there near Brentwood. He died very suddenly, and was found dead in the woods.
