Norman E. Aberle our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away in Yakima, WA, Sunday, January 4, 2009 after an extended illness.

Norman was born August 20, 1927 in Chelsea, Michigan to Ernest and Edith Aberle. Norm graduated from Chelsea High School June 7, 1945 and started college at E.M.C. in Berrin Springs, Michigan that fall. During that summer was when Norm met his beloved wife, Esther Holtzlander. Norm and Esther were married April 24, 1949 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and have spent nearly 60 years together as life partners.

In Michigan, Norm and Esther became the proud parents of their first child, Larry, and decided to pack up, leave Michigan and explore new opportunities in the Northwest. They settled in Monroe, WA and expanded the family with Tim and Leah.

Norman worked for 24 years in the Physical Plant Department at the University of Washington as a carpenter. Upon retiring, Norm needed to stay busy and started driving school bus for the Monroe School District and then later in Selah. Always on the go, Norm was out going and enjoyed talking with and meeting new people.

Norman was a great family man. He always put family first. He was the constant in good times and bad. He had much love and pride for all his family. Oh, and did he ever love his grandchildren. Taking them fishing, tractor and boat rides, for goodies and sometimes for an occasional sip of red beer. He couldn't get enough of them.

Besides family his other favorites were sweets, any and all kinds of ice cream, camping, fishing, boating and card games. He also enjoyed driving anything, car, truck, boat, bus, tractor and motorcycle. Most of all he loved car's. It was a love affair that changed with the seasons but he loved cars. His favorites were 1956 Chevy, 1963 Chevy Impala and 1976 Chevy Monte Carlo.

Norm was a good man, hard worker and wonderful father. He will be forever missed.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Ernest Aberle and his third child, Michael.

He was survived by his wife, Esther; children, Larry (Pat), Tim (Kay) and Leah (Mark); Grandchildren, Kyle, Brandon, Melissa (Mark), Mikal, Lyndsey and Matt; great grandchildren, Rainey and Autumn.

A Belated Grace
(Richard J. Kent)
Make me half the man my father was
And I'll know that I've been blest.
Give me half his courage and loving care
And a kingdom I'll possess.
When I was young and foolish
I heard but didn't hear
His words of wisdom, his sound advice,
The need to persevere.
When I grew older and wiser,
I saw what I hadn't seen:
His strength to cope with adversity
And do it with dignity.
No need for the Ten Commandments
When I came to a fork in the road.
I had only to think what he would have done
And again, he'd carry my load.
Make me half the father to my two sons
As the father he was to me
And I know that I will rest at peace
Throughout eternity.
