William's death certificate indicates that he was born in Tennessee, but some records say he was born in Franklin CO, TX. By 1859, he and his parents were living in Butler CO, MO. He was married to Mary L Nunn on December 18, 1873. They had two children: Jacob Jesse and Joseph Columbus. She died some time between 1877 and 1880. He married Nancy Catherine Stump on December 11, 1880, and they had 10 children: George Melvin, Cora Elizabeth, Henry Herbert, Myrtle Alameda, Samuel David, Mary Jane, Gracie Pearl, John Raymond, William Gladys, and Nannie Ethel. Nancy died giving birth to Nannie, who also died. He spent his years farming, hauling logs, and blacksmithing. His blacksmith shop was located on South 5th St in Poplar Bluff, MO. When William closed down his shop in the 1930's, most of the tools were used to fill an old well on the home place near Gravel Hill. He lived at 1101 Hickory at the time of his death. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was the son of Jesse A. Potillo and Emoline (Melinda) Scronce. There is some discrepancy as to the spelling of William's middle name. It has been listed as McCamey, McHamey, McHaney, McCainie, and McCanie.
