Obituary published in the Carroll County Times on 15 Mar 1940:
On Sunday morning. March 10th, 1940, a t 2:30 o'clock, Mrs. Effie Bennett Goodwin, wife of H. Price Goodwin, died at her home 117 East Green street, this city. Mrs. Goodwin had not been in good
health since last fall and in November spent two weeks at the Woman's Hospital, Baltimore, for observation and treatment. After her return from the hospital her condition seemed slightly improved, but for several weeks before her death she grew worse and for two weeks was confined to her bed and her illness critical. She was the daughter of the late Eli T. Bennett, who was a former
county commissioner of Carroll county and a well known farmer residing near Mechanicsville. Her mother was the late Mrs. Georgiana Harding Bennett. She is survived by her husband, H. Price Goodwin, and one son Charles B. Goodwin, Queen's Village, Long Island, N. Y.; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Gorsuch, Glyndon and a brother, Col. Elmer E. Bennett, at presentstationed at Fortress Monroe; also one grandchild, Ruth Robins Goodwin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Goodwin.
Until two years ago last October Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin lived on the old Goodwin farm near Westminster, on the Mount Airy road. After selling the farm they moved to their present residence, East Green Street. Mrs. Goodwin was highly esteemed by all who knew her and had many friends who are saddened by her death. Funeral services, in charge of her pastor, the Rev. Allan F. Poore, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the Funeral Chapel of John E. Myers, Willis street.
The pallbearers were, Harry J. Starr, DeWitt Shunk, Fernley Gartrell, Jesse Royer, Willis Wampler, Irving Evans. Burial was in the Westminster Cemetery. There were beautiful floral tributes from
relatives and friends.
