Born in Newton Township.

ZANESVILLE -- Kathryn L. McCutcheon, 89, formerly of South River Road,
died at 2:15 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2003, at the Muskingum County Home after
an extended illness.

She was born Dec. 26, 1913, in Zanesville to the late Ray L. Baughman
and Zoe Morrison Baughman.

She is survived by a caring son, Larry L. McCutcheon, and his wife,
Sandra J. Loomis McCutcheon of Zanesville. She was a beloved grandmother to
Brent (Kathy) McCutcheon, Kim (Steve) Mahan and Chad (Kris) McCutcheon of
Zanesville. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren; a sister,
Eileen Moore of Franklin; a brother, Melvin (Betty) Baughman of Mt. Vernon;
and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard R. McCutcheon; a
brother, Hugh (Eloise) Baughman of Zanesville; and a brother-in-law, Bill
Moore of Franklin.

She was a graduate of Crooksville High School and Muskingum College.
During her 32-year teaching career, she inspired and touched many while
teaching at Chandlersville, Fairview, Townsend and Licking View schools. She
retired in 1972 from the Franklin Local school district as principal of
Duncan Falls Junior High School.

A member of Central Trinity United Methodist Church since 1937, she
served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, member of
United Methodist Women, church treasurer and church trustee.

She joined the Muskingum County Chapter 485 of the Ohio Eastern Star
in 1957 and was a past Worthy Matron. In 1989 she was serving as Worthy
Matron of the association when the new Eastern Star Temple was dedicated.

She was a charter member of the Muskingum Chapter of the Ohio
Genealogical Society and served in various offices including president. She
chaired many committees at OGS including the publications committee and was
in charge of the obituary file at the library for many years. She
co-authored the Baughman Family History and Swingle Family History books.

She joined the Muskingum Chapter of the Daughters of the American
Revolution in 1954 and served as Regent for three terms in 1962, 1970 and
1984. She was a district director for the Southeast District of the Ohio
State Daughters of the American Revolution.

In 1976, she was responsible for obtaining volunteers to copy and
record all cemetery inscriptions in Muskingum County. She typed these
records herself and they totaled over 1,000 pages which are now at John
McIntire Library, Ohio State Library and the DAR Library in Washington, D.C.

She was a 50 year Golden Sheaf member of the Riverside Grange and
Muskingum County Farm Bureau member for many years. She was also a 4-H
advisor, member of Muskingum County First Families and a member of Friends
of the Pioneer Historical Society.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the
Snouffer Funeral Home, 1150 W. Military Road. Eastern Star services will be
held at 1:30 p.m. and D.A.V. services will be held at 4 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of the
funeral home with Rev. Gale "Skip" Colvin officiating. Burial will follow in
Zanesville Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Kathryn L. McCutcheon
Scholarship Fund, c/o Franklin Local Schools, 360 Cedar St., Duncan Falls,
Ohio 43734. Envelopes will be available at Snouffer Funeral Home.
