Jeffie Lou Jones Hammett

Combined funeral services for Allen 'Bud' Hammett, 67, and his wife, Jeffie Lou Jones Hammett, 64, of Lexington and Dallas, Texas were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 27 at First Baptist Church in Lexington. Rev. Mike O'Brien was the officiating minister. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington with Southern Funeral Home of Lexington in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29 at Park Cities Baptist Church, Northwest Parkway, Dallas, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Hammett were killed in an airplane crash on Sunday, September 24 just off Highway 17 Lexington.

Mr. Hammett, a Lexington native owned R. A. 'Bud" Hammett Insurance Agency in Dallas, and was a partner in Hammett Motor Company in Durant. He moved to Dallas in 1950 where he owned and operated a service station until he went into the insurance business in 1961. He was a member of the Salesmanship Club in Dallas, Businessmen's Flying Club, Rotary Clubs in Dallas and Lexington, also a Mason and a member of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas.

Mrs. Hammett, also a native of Lexington, was a homemaker. She was a member of The Dallas Petroleum Retailers Association, Park Cities Baptist Church and was a volunteer for the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament.

They are survived by a daughter, Inez Browning of Dallas, Texas; three sons, Billy Hammett of Dallas, Texas, Robert Hammett of Kosciusko, and Sam Hammett of Austin, Texas and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Hammett is also survived by a brother, Dolph Hammett of Lexington; seven sisters, Liela Mae Hammett, Hilda Bernhard, and Ruth ElIedge, all of Lexington; Earline Seymore of Jacksonville, Florida; Tish Allen Witt, and Maggie Martin, all of Texas.

Active pallbearers were Jack - , Fred Dunn, Woodson Earle, Dick Temple, A. B. Holder, Homer Allen Murtagh, Bill Murtagh, Malcome Welch, Mike Lammons, Charles - and Chamblis Richardson.

Honorary pallbearers were Ed Wilburn Hooker, Fred Powers, Louis King, Reedy McLeIlan and Bubba Humphries.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bud and Jeffie Hammett Memorial Fund, Central Holmes Academy, Drawer 279, Lexington 39095.
