Calvin A. Taylor was born on January 6, 1813, in Casewell County, North Carolina. The son of John Taylor and his wife, Mary Knott. He emigrated to Georgia with his parents when he was 6 yr. old, and in 1838, he moved to Mississippi. Calvin A. Taylor was educated in the common schools and graduated from Randolph-Macon College in Virginia. He was elected to the State Legislature of Mississippi, in 1861 and held many political offices at different times. In 1869, he moved to Rienzi, Mississippi. About 1855 he married Miss Elizabeth Haigh, a native of Tuscumbia County, Alabama. The wedding took place in
Tishomingo County, Mississippi. The records show Elizabeth Haigh's birth to have taken place in the year 1830, in Tuscumbia County, Alabama. Calvin Taylor passed away on July 4, 1891 in Rienzi, Mississippi. Elizabeth died in Boonville, Mississippi on January 1, 1914 twenty-five years after her husband. (bio source: Karolyn Kales)
