s/o Uriah Thomas Anderson, b. December 23, 1893 – d. October 29, 1937 and Maggie Olive Brown Anderson, b. 19 August 1862 – d. August 22, 1936.

The Andersons lived in the Dry Fork Community.

Vance attended Pleasant Hill Academy in Cumberland county and Dixie College in Cookeville.

He played football for Dixie College, which started a lifelong love of sports. He was a farmer and served as Tax Assessor for Jackson County. The Anderson's were members of the Forks of the Creek Church of Christ.

In 1949 the family moved to Putnam County where Vance continued to farm until his retirement in 1960.

Vance and Ruby spent their retirement years living on Jere Whitson Road in Cookeville. They were avid gardeners and followed all local and state sports activities.

The Anderson had 9 children. These children were:

(1) Madge Lee Anderson, b. December 16, 1916 – d. May 25 1985. She first married Cordell Ragland who died in 1946. She later married Earl Chaffin

(2) Marie Johnson Anderson, b. September 6, 1918 married Willard Clark.

(3) Thurman Bryan Anderson, b. November 15, 1920 married Ruth Bowman.

(4) Ruby Nell Anderson, b. June 23, 1927 married Roy Davis Smith.

(5) Leo Douglas Anderson, b. February 23, 1929 married Gay Pennington.

(6) Paul Richmond Anderson, b. July 6, 1932 married Helen Heady.

(7) Helen Virginia Anderson, b. November 19, 1934 married Don Stanford.

(8) David Wendell Anderson, b. February 19, 1937 married Peggy Stout.

(9) Nancy Carolyn Anderson, b. September 22, 1939 – d. December 23, 1939. Buried in the Richmond Cemetery.
