Clem C. Barham, 88, died at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday at Lincoln General Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Barham was born near the Sharon Community in 1884. He was a merchant and cotton ginner in Dubach before moving to Ruston in 1935.

In 1935, he and his son-in-law, J. C. Drewett, formed the first Grain and Cotton stock exchange in Ruston.

Since 1954, he has been semi-retired, dealing in land, timber, and oil. Recently he has served on the Louisiana Racing Commission. While attending a meeting of the commission in the early fall in New Orleans, he became ill and never fully recovered.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Kilpatrick Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dan Day officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dewey Myles.

Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Pauline Drewett of Ruston, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Sam White, Sr., Howard Wright, Dick Taylor, Harris Green, Cecil Crowley, and Ernest Shaw.
