A memorial service for Charles F. May, 78 of Hooper who died June 12, 1991 at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County in Fremont were Sunday, June 16 at Faith United Methodist Church in Hooper. Rev. Hiram Lilley officiated. Burial was in the Hooper Cemetery.
Charles F. May was born August 24, 1912 in Madison County. He moved to Hooper when he was four years old.
He operated heavy equipment most of the time with the former Western Contracting Corp. of Sioux City, Iowa. Because the company's projects included construction of dams, highways and military bases, he lived in various locations across the nation.
He served with the United States Army during World War II from November, 1943 to December, 1945 in the European Theater and the Battle of the Bulge.
He settled in Hooper in 1951 and worked for the Dodge County Road Department from 1951 until retiring in 1978.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Hooper, was a life member of Gen. MacArthur Post No. 2 Disabled American Veterans of Omaha, the Hooper American Legion Post No. 18 and the Hooper/Winslow Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10535.
He married Erma Jenson January 14, 1935 in Sioux City, Iowa. She preceded him in death April 4, 1991.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by a son, David of Clinton, Missouri; a daughter, Joyce Kay (Mrs. Timothy) Hart of Loveland, Colorado; a brother, Thomas of Fremont; two sisters, Rosa Lammers of Hooper and Susie Holstein of Arvada, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Violet Lawson of Blair; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
