LINCOLN - John Walter "Bud" Standley, 87, of Lincoln, died of natural causes Thursday at an East Helena care facility.

Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home of Helena is handling arrangements.

John died at the Shelby House in East Helena, Mont. on June 10, 2010. He had just celebrated his 87th birthday.

John was born May 31, 1923 in Great Falls, Montana, to John Albert and Pansey "Mae" Standley. He attended school in Helena, Montana, and on Jan. 31, 1942, he married Fontella Mary Ann Rasmussen.

John worked for Northern Pacific Railroad and Charlton Radio. He and Fontella owned and operated the Laurel Motel, and also, for several years, ran a seasonal fireworks stand. John owned Standley's Repair Shop in Helena for many years where he repaired radios, televisions, boats, motors and snowmobiles, as well as being a dealer for Glastron boats, Evinrude boat motors, and Bolins and Evinrude snowmobiles. John enjoyed driving school bus for Sutheimer Bus Lines. John then worked on the Lewis and Clark County Bridge crew until he retired in 1985.

John married Elizabeth "Beth" Louise Moser Cameron on Sept. 3, 1980 in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. John built their home in Lincoln by himself, and they have lived there since. They spent several summers touring the United States in their motor home – going to Washington D.C., Canada, Mexico, Niagara Falls, New York, Alaska (Four times!), and also enjoying the beautiful fall colors of the East Coast area.

John served on the Lincoln Sewer Board for 19 years, retiring in 2009. He was also president of the Lincoln Senior Center for two years. John and Beth spent their summers in Lincoln and winters in Mesa, Arizona, at Desert Dawn Estates, where they were very well known and liked. John served six years on the Homeowners Association Board with the Deeds and Restrictions Committee at Desert Dawn Estates.

An avid Hudson Car collector with a case full of trophies, John was a member of the National HET Club, and the Big Sky Chapter Hudson Essex Terraplane (HET) Club of Montana for 23 years, the Grand Canyon Chapter HET of Arizona, and the Gem State Chapter HET of Idaho and Montana. His 1955 black and red Hudson Hornet was the feature car displayed in the lobby of the Nugget Hotel in Reno, Nevada for the National HET Club Convention in 2005. John drove his Hudsons in several of the Lincoln 4th of July Parades.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Fontella M. Standley; and his sister, Susie Schneider.
