Alfred Hoover Herring, 81, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ Friday, June 11, 2010, at his Arlington home. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Alfred was born, Oct. 28, 1928. He spent his growing-up years in Stamford. He later came to Fort Worth where he met his wife of 53 years and had four children and six grandchildren. Alfred, at the age of 14, was the head cook at the Army Training Camp in Stamford. Later, he joined the Navy to help fight in the Korean War. He then proceeded to join the Fort Worth Police Force where he retired after 30 years of service. He loved travelling and spending time with his family. Alfred was preceded in death by wife, Ida Ruth Herring; mother, Luddie; sister, Betty; and brother, C.B. Survivors: Children, Patricia Vora, Teresa Spencer and husband, Jon, Michael S. Herring, Cynthia Pursley and husband, Ricky; grandchildren, Prema Barnes and husband, Sean, Neha Heidler and husband, Josh, Kumar Vora, David Cummings and wife, Samantha, Ryan and Angela Pursley; and extended family and friends.
