Frank James Preston, 76, father of Mrs. Perley M Stoughton and of Charles L. Preston of Keeseville, died Wednesday night at his home, Park St, Burlington, VT in which city he had been head of the jewelry firm of F.J. Preston & Sons, Inc. for more than 30 years.

Mr. Preston was born in Castleton, VT on Dec. 15, 1867, a son of L.W. and Clarissa (Sanford) Preston. He was a graduate of Castleton Normal School and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He was an accomplished musician.

Mr. Preston moved to Burlington in 1903 as a pianist at the opening of the Strong theatre. Previous to this, he was musical director of the Kennedy Players, traveling through New England, the Middle West and South. He was versatile with all instruments and also was a composer of many pieces.
Before opening his own jewelry business, he was with the Bero Company for nine years.

Besides Mrs. Stoughton and Charles Preston, there are three other sons and one daughter surviving: Mrs. Clark W. Hinsdale, William S., Walter L and Dr. Gerald F Preston, all of Burlington; six grandchildren include Marion C Stoughton and June E. Preston of Keeseville.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Methodist Church in Burlington. Interment will be in Lake View cemetery, that city.
