Glens Falls -- John Z. Beadle Jr., 78, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2003, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on September 15, 1925 in Cambridge, he was the first son of John Z. and Irene (Barber) Beadle .

John was a proud descendant of one of the first families to settle in what is now Washington County and he always kept a strong sense of family duty. He was a man of strongly held opinions; insatiably curious, he never stopped learning and exploring new things. A tireless worker himself, he most respected another home worker, regardless of the person's socalled rank.

He graduated from Hoosick Falls High School in 1943 and was entirely selfeducated in his chosen field. He was a respected developer in the Capital District for over 20 years, beginning in the Latham/ Newtownville area and eventually completing projects in Waterford (Northside Heights), Clifton Park (Village Green) and Halfmoon (Colonial Green). Changing directions in 1970, he designed and built Evergreen Campground and RV Parks in Lake George and was very much the handson operator of the resort until his retirement in 1985.

He loved to travel, crisscrossing the country several times by automobile and motor home. His travels took him to many of the country's most interesting places (including a memorable trip to Alaska) and he had the photos and stories to prove it. Thirtyplus years of wintering in Florida made him a font of knowledge on the state and all the highways and byways between his two homes. An avid motorcyclist, he was active (with his prized Indian "Scout") in the AMA in his youth and upon his retirement took up biking again, switching brands to Harley Davidson. He was a member of the Adirondack Riders Motorcycle Club and also of the Retreads, both locally and in Florida. John was also a knowledgeable follower of NASCAR racing and a faithful, though critical, New York Yankees fan.

He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 32 years, Phyllis Lawson Beadle ; his son, John Z. Beadle III (Jack); his brother, Filon J. Beadle and his wife, Sandy; his stepdaughter Beverly Brown and several nieces and nephews.

John's life was especially saddened by the premature loss of his parents; his younger son, James E. Beadle ; his grandson, John Z. Beadle IV and his sisters, Janet B. Ketchum and Alma B. Kennedy. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Alice (Kenney) Beadle .

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at SullivanMinahan & Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury, with the Rev. Judy Humphrey Fox officiating. Family and friends are invited and may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28 at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service on Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery in Cambridge.

The family is grateful to the exceptionally caring and professional nursing staff of the Coronary Care Unit at Glens Falls Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send a remembrance in his name to a favorite charity.
