Submit was the second daughter of Solomon Gilbert and his first of three wives, Esther Green. Solomon moved his family from New York to Danville (Vermilion County), Illinois area in 1831. Submit married first to Joshua W. Fry on October 26, 1830 in Vermilion County, Illinois. They had two children; Henry Joshua and Marie Fay (who married, 1st Wm. Moore - 2nd Gabe Keath, Jr.). By 1845 Joshua passed away. Submit then married Hiram Vennum on March 24, 1846 in Vermillion County, Illinois. They had a son, Gilbert Solomon Vennum.
