Fern Marie Alexander, a homemaker and a volunteer at Legacy Emanuel Hospital for 35 years, died June 24, 1996, of causes related to a stroke at age 84. At her request there will be no service.

Mrs. Alexander was born July 20, 1911, in Sioux City, Iowa. Her maiden name was Wallway. She married William W. in 1954 and moved to Northeast Portland the same year. Her husband died in 1995. She was a member of Rose City Park Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her brothers, Oliver George ''O.G.'' Wallway of Portland and Marvin Wallway of Casper, Wyo.

Interment was in Skyline Memorial Gardens. The family suggests remembrances to Legacy Emanuel Auxiliary in care of Stehn's Milwaukie Fuenral Home.
