Ernest H. Aebi former Portland restauranteur, died at a Portland hospital Friday after a long illnes. He was 73. He had lived at 2311 6th Ave., Milwaukie.
Mr. Aebi was born in Switzerland November 11, 1889, and came to the United States to work for the famous Oscar of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. He was later chef at several California and Washington hotels.
After coming to Portland he operated the L'Abbe French restaurant and managed the Timber Topper in the Hotel Washington.
He was founder of Chefs de Cuisine Association and past president of Food Services Executive Association, Oregon Executive Club and Oregon Restaurant Association. He was a member of the Milwaukie City Council, Milwaukie Rural Fire Protection District, Mt. Tabor Masonic Lodge and Al Kader Shrine.
Survivors include the widow, Jewell; three sons, Ernest P., Portland, and Fred M. and Kenneth G., both of Milwaukie, and a brother Hans, of Switzerland.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Skyline Memorial Funeral Home with interment in Skyline Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests that remembrances be in the form of contributions to the University of Oregon Cancer Research Fund.
