James Dennis (J.D.) Abernethy, 90, of Hickory, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at his residence.
Born January 30, 1920 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Claude and Annie Lawing Abernethy.
Mr. Abernethy was a member of Viewmont Baptist Church and had retired from Canteen Vending Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Augusta Abee Abernethy, a daughter; Carol Abernethy Benfield, two brothers; Everette and Claude Junior Abernethy, a sister; Prue Abernethy Williams.
Survivors include a son; Jimmy Abernethy of Tampa, Fla., a granddaughter; Chris Abernethy and husband Keith of Claremont, two grandsons; Darius and Jason Abernethy, great grandchildren; Lily and Emily Abernethy of Claremont.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 11:00 A.M at Viewmont Baptist Church with the Rev. Sandi Hood and Rev. Dr. Winford Hendrix officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the church.
