John was a member of the first CARTER generation to be
born in America. Following his father who broke tradition
with John's grandfather, John had a different profession
than did his father. John was a blacksmith.
On the 2nd month 30 day, 1716 (April 30th. as the year
began March 25th until the new calendar came into use in
1752), the Chester Monthly Meeting granted
John CARTER a certificate to Middleton Monthly Meeting,
Bucks County, Pennsylvania, to marry Isabel ATKINSON.
They were married at Falls Meetings, Bucks County/
May, in the year 1716. They returned to Chester to live and to rear their family at the Edward-Robert CARTER family home which they had received when they had married.
He, like his father and grandfather before him, had his
name appear many times in the minutes of the Friend's
Meetings and, also like his forefathers, he represented
the County in the Colonial Assembly in 1727 and again in
1728. John and Isabel CARTER reared their nine children in
their home and John was most likely living there
when he died in June, 1760.
