Arlie Jackson Asbury, 92, of Danville Boone County peacefully passed away Monday evening June 7, 2010 at his home on Six Mile surrounded by his family. He was born in June of 1918 to the late Joe and Emma Asbury. Arlie was also preceded in death by a sister Emma Farley and two half brothers, Percy & Gene Eagan. He worked for Sharples Coal Corporation for 45 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the UMWA Local 2935. He was of Pentecostal Faith. After retirement he enjoyed a simple life that included spending time with his family, being outdoors, taking care of the family pool and he could often be found mowing his lawn or relaxing in his swing on the front porch. He is survived by his primary caregiver, devoted and loving wife of 68 years, Ruby Marilyn; three sons and their wives, Arlie P. and Bonnie, Curtis and Vonda and Jimbo and Becky all of Six Mile; two daughters, Connie Dean of Pelham, Alabama and Debbie Waters of Six Mile; and seven grandchildren,Cindy Asbury Ball, Amy Ferrell Bender, Curtis Asbury II, Arlie P. Asbury II, Adam Ferrell, Cassie Asbury and Rachel Waters. Ten great grandchildren, Nick & AbiGail Ball, Owen & Annie Bender, Carson and Jackson Asbury, Madi, Sadie, and Heidi Asbury and Gracie Ferrell. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Atkins, Dr. Stollings and the staff of Madison Medical Group. His caregivers and friends, Leda White, Anita Marcum and Barbara Stowers. A special thank you to Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville, WV for their kindness, love and compassion. The family will accept visitors at Handley Funeral Home on Friday June 11th from 1pm until 3pm. The funeral service will immediately follow at 3pm with Earl Akers officiating. Burial will be in Boone Memorial Park, Madison. Pallbearers are Arlie P. Asbury II, Curtis Asbury II, David Ball, Nick Ball, Doug Bender and Matthew Shirkey.
