Joseph Vincent Close, 89 of Mystic passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Joe was born in Mystic on September 6, 1920 to Harvey & Elizabeth(McCarty)Close. He married Wilma Magnall on July 27, 1946. Joe served his country in the United States Coast Guard during World War ll. He was employed by Max & Marges Grocery and would retire from Union Carbide. Joe was a member of the American Legion Post #340. He enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, Motorcycle rides with his wife Wilma and feeding his birds.

Joe is survived by his wife Wilma Close, one son, Jim Close(Myra)of Mystic, three grandchildren; John Close(Natalie)of Mystic, Kimberly Elliott(Todd)of Omaha, NE. Jamie Close(Amanda)of Clarksville, TN, six great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, three brothers; Bob Close, Harry Close, Ray Close, two sisters; Eleanor Swarthout and Lois Jackson.

Funeral service will be 10 am, Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Rev. Gerald Campbell officiating. Visitation will be all day Friday with the family present from 6-8 pm. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery near Mystic. Memorials may be given to the family.
