She never went by Georgia but instead by her middle name, Joan, which was pronounced Jo-Ann. She was named for her grandparents, Georgia Ann (Duke) and Joseph "Joe" Rickard.

Joan Pittman Collins passed away quietly in her home on Saturday, May 10, 2008. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Joan was born January 6, 1918 in White Settlement, Texas. She married George J. Collins, Sr. in 1934. George and Joan moved to La Grange in 1951. Together they had five children – daughters, Jerry Lane Crumpler, Diane Murray; sons, Dr. George J. (Jim), Jr., David and Dennis.

She is survived by her four remaining children and their spouses, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; 3 expectant great grandchildren, her sister, Roberta Kennedy of Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gussye Pittman, her husband, a granddaughter – Marla Kay Peters, her son Dr. George J. (Jim) Collins, who passed away December 5, 2007, a sister and three brothers.

She will be dearly missed by a family that adored her.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Hostyn, Texas on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, 2:30 p.m., where she has been a member since moving to La Grange. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor to be made to Brazos Valley Hospice or the charity of your choice.
