From 28 May 1925 article in the Gazette and Farmer's journal on the Baldwinsville State Bank turning 50 years old:

D. C. Greenfield, a well, known Baldwinsville lawyer, was the bank's first attorney. He was born November 22, 1818, In the town of Sempronlus, Cayuga county, and was the son of Starr and. Mary Sherman Greenfield, being the oldest of seven children. He was educated in the common schools of Moravia and Skaneateles, and finished at the private academy of Prof. Allis in the latter place. Mr. Greenfield taught school for a few years, coming to the town of Van Buren for that purpose in 1839. He afterwards taught in Warners, and removed to this village in 1848, where he resided until his death.

The year of his removal to Baldwinsville, he commenced the study of law with the late Judge LeRoy Morgan, and was
admitted to the bar November 4, 1850. He was afterwards admitted to practice in both the United States circuit and district courts. He was elected, in 1855, supervisor in the town of Van Buren, and served six terms.

In 1865 he was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Oscar L. Sprague, surrogate of Onondaga county, and in the same year was elected for a full term. He also served as Justice of the peace for eight terms.

Mr. Greenfield was united in marriage to Miss Harriet Foster, daughter of Delanson Foster of Warners. March 14, 1841. His death occurred on March 23, 1899.
