Edgar N. "Eddie" Eavers, 90, of Lovingston Healthcare, formerly of 54 Arrow Lane, Stuarts Draft, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born Dec. 31, 1919, to the late Elmer Joseph and Nettie Elizabeth (Miller) Eavers.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Eavers was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy S. Eavers Campbell, and third wife, Helen Decker Eavers; three sisters, Ethel Fitzgerald, Hazel Diehl and Hilda Eavers; and six brothers, Herschell, Melvin, Weldon, Roller, Herbert and Thomas Eavers.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley and husband, John Smith, of Stuarts Draft, Jean Miller of Waynesboro and Jo Ann Ashley of Greenville; two sons, Scott Eavers of Lyndhurst and Mark Eavers of Greenville; two sisters, Hattie Brooks and Katherine Cash; as well as seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Eavers was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church. He was president of the men's club for many years, head of the men's club auction and a part of the building and maintenance committee. He started Eavers Amoco and grocery store and also hauled hay, shaving, etc., E&W Construction and E&E Heating & Plumbing. After retirement at age 70, he worked at Ace Hardware. He was an honorary member of the fire department, rescue squad, Moose lodge and Lion's and Ruritan clubs. He participated in the business association and was a life member of the Bear and Coon Club.

Special friends of his were Velda Zirk, Leo Arehart and the late Russell Dean Sr.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2010, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Stuarts Draft, with the Rev. B. Failes Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Gene Weller, Mack Brooks, Rick Moneymaker, J.D. Whitesell, Gene Kane and Larry Cohron.

Honorary pallbearers will be David L. Campbell and wife, Margie, Velda Zirk, Everett Allen, Ron Engleman, Jimmy Allen and wife, Barbara, Ben Howell Jr., Watt Hinkle, Donald Snead and wife, Barbara, Carl Price, Janet Weller and William Cason.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the church.
