ELDER BERRY A. THORNTON ANSWERS CALL

Nahunta, Ga., Feb. 28, 1936. Elder Berry A. Thornton, 65, prominent Primitive Baptist leader of Southern Georgia, a pioneer resident of this section, died suddenly at his home in the Waresboro section, Thursday night.

He had been active in the ministry until the day of his death, and his passing brings sorrow to a host of friends throughout this entire section. He was a former resident of the Hickox section and served that church for a period of over twenty-seven years. He recently had been re-elected moderator of the Alabaha River Primitive Baptist Association composed of churches in Ware, Pierce, and Brantley counties, the election being held at the ninety-third annual session of the Association at Rome Church near Waycross.

He is survived by his widow; five sons, M. W. thornton of Waycross, Albert Thornton of Haywood, Davis Thornton of Waresboro, Randolph Thornton of Valdosta, and J. L. Thornton of Waresboro; and two daughters, Mrs. Plina Tuten of Waycross, Mrs. Oren Wainwright ofWaresboro; also two sisters, Mrs. Corrine Wilson of Savannah and Mrs. Lula Davis of Blackshear.

Funeral services was held Sunday morning at 11 o'clock at Jordan Church conducted by Elder L. M. Guthrie, with burial at Jordan Cemetery.
