Hugh was the son of Aaron & Charlotte Ashcraft Perry. There is a record of a marriage to Maggie Rorie (d/o King & Viney) on Jan. 8, 1899 in Union County, NC. Hugh lists his age as 21 making his birth year approx. 1878. A check of the marriage register, handwritten and at Family Search, plainly looks like "Maggie" as her first name. The certificate has been added to the memorial and the name "Maggie" is clear but could this be how "Mackey" was heard? Hugh answers that his father is living but his mother is dead.
