After their arrival James chose property on Blanchard Road in the township of Colden where their last two children, Luna and Pliny were born. Their house is still standing, having been extensively remodeled over the years, but still occupies the same footprint as it did when built.
James became a well respected member of the community and established himself as a Justice of the Peace in addition to his farming interests. He performed the ceremony for the marriage of his daughter, Martha, when she united with Horace Jameson on January 1, 1854.
