He was the son of Lawson Settle Hughes 1856-1929, buried in Riverside Cem Mangum OK and Nancy Rebecca Jane McCasland, 1860-1889 buried in Royse City Cem, Royse City, Rockwall Co TX. Walter was 17-18 months old when his mother died.

Walter was born June 29, 1888 in Rockwall Co TX and died Sept 17, 1979 in Albuquerque, NM. He was married to Effie Labana Long in Sept 1909 and they were the parents of 10 children.

Walter was my grandfather's (William Andrew Jackson Hughes 1880-1969) younger brother.
