Mrs. Diane Ables Rites Held Jan.1

Funeral services for Mrs. Diane Younger Ables were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 1 in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home in Lexington. The Rev. Ed McDaniel, her former pastor at Durant, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Mike Steen, a former schoolmate.

Mrs. Ables, 34, died Monday, December 28 around noon (Mountain Time) at Lea General Hospital in Hobbs, New Mexico as a result of injuries sustained in a one vehicle accident. Two sons, a stepson and her niece, passengers in the pickup, were also injured at the same time. (All the children have now been released from the hospital.)

A native of Holmes County, she was born June 14, 1947 in Lexington where she spent most of her childhood. She was an active member of First Baptist Church at Hobbs where she worked with the G.A.’s and was a member of the Adult Sanctuary Choir. She was employed as a sewing machine operator at Levi Strauss Company and was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Fred E. Ables; a son, Barry Ables and stepson, Eugene Ferrell, all of Hobbs; a son, Todd Halford of Memphis, Tennessee; her mother, Mrs. Mary B. Younger of Lexington, her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Cole P. Younger of West Memphis, Arkansas; two sisters, Mrs. Richard E. (Beverly) Guizlo, Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee and Mrs. Charles E. (Judy) Kelly of Morgan City; her grandmother, Mrs. J.K. Boatwright of Lexington.

Burial was in Liberty Chapel Cemetery with Southern in charge of arrangements.

Serving as pallbearers were Bailey Ables, Mack Ables, Ollie Ray Ables, Tommy Ashley, Buddy Fox, Roy Ross, Larry Eubanks and Richard Hammett.
