He moved to Lueders in 1912 and married Ethel Bible at Lueders in 1915.
Mr. Powell taught school at Lueders for a number of years and served as superintendent for more than four years before retiring many years ago.
He was a member of First Baptist Church for 45 years.
Servies were held at First Baptist Chruch with Rev. Lewis Markwood, pastor and Rev. Oscar Fannin, former pastor, officiating.
Survived by his wife; one daughter - Mrs. John Hardesty, Jr; one son - Jack Powell; two sisters - Mrs. Ann Sandlin and Mrs. Maud Parnell; one brother - J.J. Powell; three grandchildren.
