Obit: Harlan C. Austin, dateline West Point, Ill - Harlan C. Austin, 66, of West Point died at 7:20 p. m. Wednesday (Dec 13, 1978) in the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage where had been ill for several months. A 44-year resident of West Point, Mr. Austin was a retired rural mail carrier. He was born near Mendon, on Jun 17, 1912, a son of Clarence and Mabel Kincaid Austin and attended local schools and Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. He married Fern Billingsley in Quincy on Dec. 2, 1934. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Allan of Beardstown and Dan of Quincy; two daughters Mrs. John (Jean) Dreckmeier of Burlington, Iowa, and Mrs. Rod (Judy) Wartick of Bowen; a sister, Mrs. Edith Berg of Norco, Calif.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a grandson. Services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Sunday in the Freeman Funeral Home in West Point with the Rev. Larry G. Coile conducting. Burial will be in the West Point Cemetery.
