Agnes Ann Hembreiker, 90, of Springfield, entered Heaven's Gates at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at St. John's Hospital.

Agnes Ann was born December 4, 1919, in Springfield, the daughter of William and Anna Tutter Hembreiker.

She attended Ursuline Academy and graduated from Springfield College with an associate's degree in 1939. She retired from her position at Franklin Life Insurance Company after 43 years of service. Agnes Ann was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and did much volunteer work, including being a caregiver at St. John's Hospital. She was a St. John's Hospital Samaritan and a member of the Blessed Sacrament Altar Society and the Brinkerhoff Home Auxiliary, and served as a Gray Lady at St. John's Hospital after WWII.

She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She loved flowers and gardening; her favorite flower was the red geranium. She was influenced by her family's floral business. Agnes Ann will always be remembered for her remarkable sense of humor, which attracted many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William Charles Hembreiker; a sister, Mary Lucille; and a nephew, William Roger Hembreiker.

She is survived by her nieces, Helene Hembreiker of Iowa City, IA, and Ann (husband, Richard) Funck of Aurora, IL; great-nieces and nephews, Patrick L. Funck, Nancy E. Funck, Alison Lee Funck, Linda Rose Hembreiker, and Nicole Ann Hembreiker; and great-great-nieces and nephews, Connor, Maggie, Isabella, and Ryan Funck.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2010, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, beginning with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield, with Rev. David J. Hoefler, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
