The burial site is in a cemetery that is just inside an impact area used for artillery and other weapons fire on the U.S. Army Fort Drum Military Reservation, New York.

The grave marker has been identified as damaged by accidental indirect/direct weapon fire according to a newspaper article by the Watertown Daily Times Newspaper (Watertown, NY), dated June 22, 1996, "Woman Leads Fight to Repair Fort Drum Graves," written by David C. Shampine.
