Clark Albert Mullen was born to Ebenezer B. Mullen, Jr. and Lucinda Stearns on August 9, 1861 in or near Rochelle, Ogle County, Illinois. His brothers and sister are twins Emma Orel (Ray) and Emery (Bud) Oren, and Bert Wesley. In 1873 at about age 12, Clark moved with his family to southwestern Iowa into Montgomery County.

Clark married Sarah Augusta Newman on December 25, 1884 in Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa. Clark and Sarah farmed with his father in Montgomery County until about 1903 when the family moved to near Moville, Woodbury County, Iowa and farmed there. In 1906, they homesteaded a cattle ranch in Kit Carson County, Colorado south of Siebert. After a disastarous winter for the cattle in 1912, the family moved to a farm near Esbon, Jewell County, Kansas. In 1924, Clark and Sarah moved to a small farm north of Seibert, Kit Carson, Colorado. In 1938, they moved into Seibert itself. Born to them are Roy Ebenezer, Florence Lucinda (Shumate), Guy Edgar, Charles Raymond, Phillip Meriss, twins Lester Lee and Howard Ralph, Harold Merritt, Grace Evelyn (Bennett), Lena May (Cheesman), and Loyd Albert.
