Howard Hatcher Stephens got his unusual name because the doctor who delivered him was Dr Hatcher in Wellington, KS.
Before WWII Howard worked for Karl King Photography in Topeka as a photographer. Howard was advertising manager for an implement manufacturer in Topeka for many years. Following that he moved to Winfield with his wife Betty and son Bill. He was Public Relations Director at Southwestern College in Winfield until his death.
Howard spent all of his spare time perfecting his photography craft, experimenting with 'old' techniques and refining them so they would work with photo equipment and chemicals from the 20th century. Howard's son and grandson both have followed in his photographic footsetps.
