Centenarian Mrs. A.F. Brosch, nee Annie Gieptner, of Shiner entered eternal rest at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 1982 at Trinity Lutheran Home, where she had resided since Jan. 16, 1978. She attained the age of 101 years and 10 months.
The body reposed in state at the Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner until 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5 when it was moved to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Funeral services with Holy Mass, offered by the Rev. Eugene Janson, followed at 11 a.m.
Burial took place in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons, Dr. E.A. Brosch, Jr., Dr. James Brosch, both of Wichita Falls; nephews, Otto Pavlicek of Moulton, Marvin Migl of Seguin, Marvin Adamek and Alvin Boehm, both of Shiner.
Rosary was recited at the Buffington Chapel Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. led by Father Janson.
One of a family of nine children, Mrs. Brosch was born April 2, 1880, near Moulton, Lavaca County, Texas, daughter of Emil and Anna (Kubena) Gieptner, natives respectively of the State of Oregon and Moravia, now Czechoslovakia.
She was reared on the family farm and attended a nearby rural school.
On Aug. 2, 1899, she married Adolf F. Brosch in the Praha Catholic Church. The Rev. Father Vrana officiated at the ceremony. The couple resided at Komensky and Flatonia before coming to Shiner about 1914.
Here he was associated with the firm of Wendtland and Wagner and had also worked for the Wolters Bros. He started in business with Joe Macha, and later the firm name of Star Grocery Co. was that of Mr. Brosch and A.J. Berckenhoff. In later years the firm operated under the name of Mrs. A.F. Brosch and Son. Her son, Alfred, still operates the store.
Her husband died suddenly Mar. 16, 1934 of an apparent heart attack while on a fishing trip to the Guadalupe River.
Mrs. Brosch continued to make her home at the residence she and her husband established and lived there until she moved to the nursing home four years ago.
Surviving are her two sons, Alfred G. Brosch of Shiner and Dr. E.A. Brosch of Wichita Falls; a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Josie) Migl of San Antonio; two grandsons, nine great-grandchildren and four great-greareat - grandchildren. (sic)
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, June 27, 1934; her mother, Sept. 27, 1947; four sisters, Emma Gieptner, 13, Feb. 12, 1899; Mrs. Jim (Emily) Pavlicek, July 5, 1929; Mrs. Adolph (Hattie) Pavlas, Sept. 27, 1953; Mrs. Aug. (Mary) Karasek, June 10, 1964; three sons, Emil A. Gieptner, Nov. 22, 1958; Alfred Gieptner, Apr. 16, 1966; and an infant, Carl Gieptner.
