Former teacher's services Sunday
Mrs. Ruth Landes Griggs, 91, an early-day McAlester school teacher and Tulsa resident since 1937, died today in a Tulsa hospital. Mrs. Griggs moved from her native Schell City, Mo., to McAlester in 1908 and taught in elementary schools there 16 years. She later worked as a sales clerk for Vandever's department store in Tulsa, retiring about 26 years ago.
Mrs. Griggs was a former member of McAlester's First Baptist Church. She was the sister of the late Guy M. Landes, Sr., prominent Tulsa insuranceman. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Griggs Whaley of the home at 2225 East 23rd Street; a sister, Mrs. Lena Blake of Greenbelt, Md; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Schell City under the direction of the Lewis Funeral Home there.
