In her early girlhood, she professed faith in Jesus Christ and united with the Congregational Church, and on moving to Fairmont, her membership was placed in the Congregational church of Fairmont, where she has been a member ever since.
Although failing in strength for the past four years, her mind as kept keen and alert, and until failing eyesight prevented, her hands were ever busy, doing for others.
As her pastor for the past two and one-half years, it has been my good pleasure to talk with her on many occasions, and to lead her in prayer as she lay upon her bed of pain. She was always anxious to know just how the work on the new church was progressing, looking forward with bright anticipation to the time of its completion.
Hers was a strong Christian character and during the weariness of failing strength, she often longed for the release, which unites her again with the loved ones gone before.
Two of her favorite verses were: "I will both lay me down in peace and sleep, for Thou Lord, only makest me dwell in safety," and "He giveth His beloved sleep."
She leaves one son, one daughter and four grandchildren.
Funeral services attended by a large number of relatives and friends were conducted in the Federated church, Sunday afternoon at 4:30 by the pastor Rev. W.F. Perry, D.D., assisted by the Rev. V.C. Wright of the Fairmont Methodist church. A quartet composed of Mrs. William Boren, Mrs. Homer Goodrich, Messrs. A.C. Ogden and H.O. Bixler, with Miss Mildred Helvey at the piano, sang "How Firm a Foundation" and "It is Well with my Soul" and Mrs. Goodrich sang "He Giveth His Beloved Sleep." At the cemetery, the quartet sang "The Home of the Soul."
