Katharina (Katherine) was born in Neudorf, S. Russia to George Friedrich Bentz (1832 - 1921) and Katharina (Kirschenmann) Bentz (1837 - 1862). Her mother died when Katharina was only one year old. George Friedrich Bentz then married his first wife's sister, Elizabeth while they still lived in Glueckstal, S. Russia and Elizabeth became Katharina's mother even though she actually was her step-mother and Aunt.
John and Katharina had six children - Edward who died as an infant; Margaret (1889 - 1956) who married Chris Berg - four children: Edwin, Helen, Roland and Rudolf; Edward (1893 - 1974) who married Phyllis Walth - one child: LouAnn Guthmiller who married Rudolph S. Frasch and they had five children: Rhonda, Rodney, Marla, Michael and Jeffrey; Jacob (1895 - 1956) who married Helen Dunkak and they had four children - Earl Dean who married Maxine Conner and they had one child, Colleen; William (1925 - 2007) who married Marilyn Ida Schlaht and they had three children - William Lee, Clay Bruce and Jon Joel; Fred and Edgar.
