John J. "Jack" McClure, the son of Samuel McClure and Frances J. Cravens, was born on May 5, 1857 in Grayson County, Kentucky. At the time of the 1880 Census of Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky the Samuel McClure family consisted of: Samuel, a farmer, age 60 born in Kentucky with his parents born in Kentucky; his wife Francis J., age 56, born in Virginia with her parents born in Virginia; and their Kentucky born children: Sarah, age 30; Jack, age 23; George, age 24; Alice, age 16; Thomas, age 12; Matilda, age 11; Sophia, age 11; and Ida B., age 9. The rest of the family was born in Kentucky with their father born in Kentucky and their mother born in Virginia. John J. McClure died on November 12, 1883 and was buried in the McClure Cemeteruy on Highway 259, past Laudit and south of Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky.
