He was the son of Harrison Loomis(1804-1894) & Harriett Spencer(1811-1890). He was a photographer by trade and raised and raced sulky horses. He married Cornelia Sophia Hawley in 1864, they had two children; Eudora(1965-1935), and Laura Louise, born 1883(married Archibald Robert Temple in 1907).
