Gabrilla (or Grabilla as her marker reads) Flowers was a daughter of Green Franklin Flowers b. 1825 and Adeline M. Springs Flowers b. 1829 of Spencer Mountain, Gaston Co., NC. She was married on 3/24/1874 to Luther Columbus Mitchem. They were the parents of seven children:
1. John F. Mitchem b. and d. 1876;
2. Julia Etta Mitchem 1879 - 6/29/1956 (m. 10/10/1897 Robert Franklin Dellinger);
3. Hattie Mitchem 10/15/1880 - 7/20/1935 (m. John Waisner);
4. Ferrie Lee Mitchem 6/20/1884 - 4/26/1972 (m. Henry Jacob Coon and m. Andrew Jackson Greer);
5. Archie Hill Mitchem (twin) 1/6/1886 - 1949 (m. Margaret Logan Arrowood);
6. Harvey Will Mitchem (twin) 1/6/1886 - 2/17/1953 (m. Mary Frances "Mamie" Hull);

After the death of her husband in 1900, Gabrilla worked for a while with her husband's brother, David Worthly Mitchem, Sr., in the operation of a livery stable in the Lowell-McAdenville, NC area. She later ran a boarding house at 509 East Main Street, Gastonia, NC.
